it needs to be very accurate preferably cheap with a cheap ammo!I`m looking for a ww2 bolt action riflefor hunting and my choices are m1903, kar98k, lee enfielield, mosin9130?
The good rifles won't be cheap......so the Mosin is the cheapest and ammo is cheap....and they shoot fair. The 1903 and Mauser will be the most accurate.....especially with a good scope. The bolt on the Lee is the smoothest.I`m looking for a ww2 bolt action riflefor hunting and my choices are m1903, kar98k, lee enfielield, mosin9130?
As multiply mentioned, the Mosin Nagants are CHEAP and okay for short distance woods hunting with their iron sights and probably worn rifling. However, the most and best available ';hotrod sporterization'; parts are for the K98. Even Taiwan copies of drop-in Timney triggers are affordable! As are screw-in barrels chambered for all 30-06/308 derived cartridges also available, with minor rails mod on the short cartridges as they have a wider shoulder. A K98 will offer the pondering of cheap and easy upgrades for years! Googling Mitchell's Mausers is a good place to start on that.
Most modern bolt-action hunting rifles are derived from the Mauser design. The M-1903 Springfield rifle is also derived from the Mauser rifle design. So the Mauser 98k is a viable choice for a hunting rifle.
The Lee-Enfield and Mosin Nagant designs are different.
The cheapest happens to be the Mosin Nagant rifle and its 7.62x54R cartridges.
The most expensive to purchase would be an M-1903 Springfield rifle.
The Lee-Enfield is about even with the Mauser in terms of purchase price, but the .303 British ammunition is the most expensive to purchase.
Accuracy varies from rifle to rifle and depends greatly upon the condition of the rifle. There are good and bad shooters among all four types of rifle.
For modern hunting, I suggest purchasing a modern hunting rifle. If you really want to use a WW-II rifle to hunt with, then pick the one you enjoy shooting the most and use appropriate hunting ammunition for the game animal(s) you want to harvest.
I agree with the above poster. Also make sure to have a gunsmith check the gun for defects or dangerous amounts of wear. These guns may or may not have been through a lot or stored properly for a long period of time. If it's the original action or feel you're looking for, find one that has been rebarreled in recent years. The 1903 will probably have some of the cheapest ammo and the most common.
the enfields have most commonly been ';sporterised'; by cutting down the wood and barrel. i'm not sure if that's what you're going for, but they're good guns and .303 is cheap as chips. i have a fetish for the nagants, but the 90degree bolt throw will be a pain in the *** if you want a scope on top. 54R ammo is around, but not as easy to come by (here, at least) those would be my choice of that list.
M1903 because ammunition is easy to find.
Lee Enfield because of its butter smooth bolt.
Mauser 98K because of its accuracy.
Mosin because it is cheap, 80-120$ maximum.
Those would be the reasons i would choose each rifle.
1903 but make sure its in good condition first
the 1903 springfield uses common ammunition thats easier to find
I prefer the springfield m1903 because the bolt is easy open unless not lubricated
my fist pick would be the 03 then the enfield
