See that rifle on the top left hand, page 1?
Remington 700 ADL in 270 winchester. That is EXACTLY what I would suggest a person with a NORMAL amount of money to buy
For you, consider stepping up to the Remington 700 CDL (classic Delux) which should run a little under 900.

Might as well stick with the 270 winchester, it is a GREAT 'universal' cartridge that can handle deer or elk just fine.
If you are just going for deer, consider getting the same gun but in 25-06.
Now, the second half of your purchase will be for an optic to top your hunting rifle. The classic multiuse choice is the 3-9x40mm
Most of the time I would suggest spending about $200 on a scope, and suggest these three, for people with normal amounts of spending money

For you, I'd say splurge a bit and get even better optics

And of course, you will need to buy a base and rings, wherever you buy the scope, they will help you pick the right ones. Also, you need a cleaning kit of the approprate type, and a case. Again, the guys at the gun counter will help you. I'd get a soft side case, unless you plan on taking this gun on airplane trips with you (like if you plan to travel to Colorado and hunt elk, or something like that) then get a hardside case that is airline ratedOnly if your good with hunting rifles?
Like all other answers, 2000$ can get you several nice rifles.
Personally, I would go with a Steyr/Mannlicher scout rifle at about 1600$, or a Springfield Armory M1A. Both are in .308 Winchester, a round that I have killed several different large animals with.
However, neither one of these rifles are really hunting rifles, but rather general purpose. They are both extremely accurate when taken care of.
If you want a rifle that is built to hunt and excel only in that, I would go with some sort of Remington bolt action in any caliber from 260 on up.
When buying optics for it, you will want to spend at least 150-200$ for a scope that will last a long time and perform well. And depending on what you are hunting, I would recommend a magnification of about 4x. Many people today like to put an 8x scope on a smaller rifle, which not only looks funny in my opinion, but changes the performance of the gun.
All else I can say is that I hope you get a rifle that suits you well and that will work nicely.
wow, are you serious! 2000 bucks for a hunting rifle, that's not cheap, not at all, actually, that's way outta my league for a hunting rifle.
you can pretty much get any rifle from any of the major manufacturers including remington, winchester, marlin, savage, etc and still get an awesome scope with it too.
if you meant 200 bucks though, you'd need to be lucky to get a brand new rifle fpr only 200, but you might be able to go to a local gun shop and find a reasonable rifle.
asking this question is like asking someone there favorite color. everyone is going to have a different opinion on the gun choice, example...im not going to get detailed with my answer because i have to much to say.. your best bet is to find a gun your interested in and research it.
For that price I would say get a Browning A Bolt in 270 or 30-06 or 7 Rem Mag and a good scope. You will be ready for any kind of hunting you want to do. If you watch your sales you will have money left over for ammo. Plenty of Ammo. And maybe a guided hunt.
Buy a Remington or Savage Brand in 30-06 caliber.* Its been tried, true, tested and proven to be the Best for any Big Game in North America since 1936.*
If you're talking about 2,000 american dollars you can buy any three or four rifles of any major brand like remington, winchester or other similar brand.
Do you mean $2,000? If so you have a great many options.
1st what do you plan on hunting and where?
2nd what state do you live in.
Here you are,
