Why don't I ever see deer when I go hunting, And should i be using a 20 ga. slug, will that work? Why don't I ever see deer when I go hunting?
Deer have survived and flourished because they avoid contact with the predators. When we walk through the woods they hear, smell and see us long before we are aware they are near. Silently they move away and put distance between us. If come upon one they watch our eyes. they will stand still and see what we are about to do. They watch our body language for clues. Our body language changes when we change from casual walking to stalking. they pick it up immediately. It is not that they are thinking about us and our movements in a rational way but their survival has bred into them inate instincts. Make eye contact and they will flee. If we act like we haven't seen them they stay put and let us walk by. They don't look up to often. We don't have to many predators that spring out of trees on them. That is why tree stands are so effective. It also keeps our stinky body odor up and away from them. All we have to do is stay quiet and they'll come right next to the stand if it is properly placed.
It takes a long time and a lot of studying to become a proficient deer hunter. Go out with someone who already is fairly successful at it. Read books like Outdoor Life etc for great tips. Get knowledgeable about how to hunt deer and your success will improve. I'm an archer. If my little 45lb bow will kill a deer, I would surmise a slug from a shot gun even a 20 gauge should kill a deer. Why don't I ever see deer when I go hunting?
Because you are spending too much time on the internet asking stupid questions rather than out in the field hunting deer.
Because you're looking for deer between 11AM and 3PM in the plains.
