Elliot Smith killed himself (but his gf was locked in the bathroom) in 2006 so its at least a year old. I have it on my iTunes and yes it is from Good Will HuntingHow old is the song ';Angeles'; by Elliot Smith? (from good will hunting?)?

Anyone know when the haggis hunting season starts in scotland?

i'm thinking of going there and i'm looking

for a bit of sport,,,,, anyone know?Anyone know when the haggis hunting season starts in scotland?
It depends in which area you want to go haggis hunting. You'd be better waiting until the grouse shooting season is over %26amp; that starts August 12th. so give it at least a good month to get the haggis at their prime.

They are clever little creatures so you'd best be well prepared %26amp; don't be mistaken in thinking that due to them having one leg shorter than the other that it impedes them in any way......they've evolved that way as it makes running up %26amp; down hillsides easier especially when they run sideways.

Try laying traps rather than shooting them.....they are partial to black pudding....uncooked %26amp; chopped into cubes.

Happy hunting!Anyone know when the haggis hunting season starts in scotland?
Oooh you have to be really careful lol...they might only have 2 legs but those claws are pretty sharp!

Thank you for the giving me the Best Answer......had a good giggle with your question. x

probably starts on the same day as all the royal low lifes start shooting everything in sight,,,thats august 12th but the rest of the year they ride to hounds and kill foxes saying its essential to keep down the fox population,,,i see motor cars etc killing more foxes than enough every day,,,it may have been ';essential';in 1300 ad but thats no excuse now,,,,

but then again these d**kheads have been ';out foxed';by the foxes who now live in towns and cities where these p*llocks on horses cannot chase them and watch a pack of dogs tear them upart limb from limb
please catch one for me. I nearly bought one today! I love haggis!

No?

[I'm so old]
be careful %26gt; them haggis are vicious
the haggis,,well did you know its left legs are longer than its right legs so it can run around the mountains
August 1st!
12th to the 8th of Febuary, you have to do it backwards.
If you keep cheating on the Misses I think she's going to hunt you down no matter what time of the year it is!!!

You've missed it.It starts on April Fools Day.

Why is Holden Caufield's hunting hat red?

Holden Caulfield is the main character in The Catcher in the RyeWhy is Holden Caufield's hunting hat red?
Well, first of all, it is the same color of Allie's and Phoebe's hair, which could mean that the hat is his way of connecting with their innocence. Also, red is a unique color, so it is a way for Holden to break away from the phony world and grab attention. Why is Holden Caufield's hunting hat red?
Yeah the last answer was right, it was because Allie's hair was red.

But according to sparknotes.com:

Holden鈥檚 Red Hunting Hat

The red hunting hat is one of the most recognizable symbols from twentieth-century American literature. It is inseparable from our image of Holden, with good reason: it is a symbol of his uniqueness and individuality. The hat is outlandish, and it shows that Holden desires to be different from everyone around him. At the same time, he is very self-conscious about the hat鈥攈e always mentions when he is wearing it, and he often doesn鈥檛 wear it if he is going to be around people he knows. The presence of the hat, therefore, mirrors the central conflict in the book: Holden鈥檚 need for isolation versus his need for companionship.

It is worth noting that the hat鈥檚 color, red, is the same as that of Allie鈥檚 and Phoebe鈥檚 hair. Perhaps Holden associates it with the innocence and purity he believes these characters represent and wears it as a way to connect to them. He never explicitly comments on the hat鈥檚 significance other than to mention its unusual appearance.
You would wear a red hat so other hunters could see you.

Anyone fancy a bit of hunting tomorrow evening round Pine Bluff Nebraska,?

All the other members of the Gun Club are down Manhatten for some big shootin convention, Million Dollar top prize or something,Anyone fancy a bit of hunting tomorrow evening round Pine Bluff Nebraska,?
Not to answer the question so much but to respond to the answers, I have to ask:

How would you animal rights folks like it if you were kept in a prison cell your entire life, castrated, branded, fed modified food to make you fatter, and then executed when you turned 25 to go on someone's table? I'd much rather live my life of freedom, and if I do get killed, I'd rather not see it coming. You know, walking around, minding my own business, there's a shot, a sharp pain, and then it's over. I'd much rather have that then be herded into a metal rack, one after another, watching everyone I grew up with slaughtered one at a time. And that's just for beef, I don't even want to think about life a s chicken or pig. I doubt even the worst things at Guantanamo Bay are dwarfed by what these animals have to put up with. As far as being humane goes, hunting is far more humane than buying meat from a grocery store. It allows the animal you eat to live a full, long life in freedom instead of eating tortured prisoners.

As for going hunting with you, I'd sure like to, but unfortunately I don't have a Nebraska license, and it's a bit much of a drive out there.Anyone fancy a bit of hunting tomorrow evening round Pine Bluff Nebraska,?
Tell me, are you really Dick Cheney in disguise?
Your cruel. Killing animals for no reason. How would you like it if I shot you?
ok...
Sorry, I only approve of killing animals in the wild if you need food or they are injured beyond recovery. So if you are just going to make trophies or win a prize, I can't support it.

A blood hound is great for that kind of things, they're great for raccoon hunting too. They love to hunt period, so I'm sure they would make a grat dog for you. My brother hunts or goes fishing everyday after work, and he has 3 hound dogs for hunting.
Have you considered a Patterdale terrier? Not the bonniest of dogs but born to hunt or so I am told!
Any type of hound really, but if you are trying to find one specially for rabbits Beagles and Bassets.Bassetts are best in my opinion for hunting small game, they pick up the scent with their longer ears and are able to track the scent longer than a beagle. Also being lower to the ground is a better ability to hunt small game as well.

What is good advice for hunting coyote?

Be a good shot. What is good advice for hunting coyote?
good camo, and be very stillWhat is good advice for hunting coyote?
    1. If you are calling coyotes, the most important thing is the wind. 9 times out of 10 a coyote will circle down wind before moving in to investigate. If that coyote smells anything out of the ordinary it will make tracks in the opposite direction, most of the time totally undetected.

    2. Concealmentis a must. Do not sit with the sun in your eyes, make the coyote look into the sun, and set so that the outline of your body is broken up.

    3. Alot of beginners make the mistake of shooting at the whole coyote. With winter fur they look alot bigger than they actually are, so make sure you have a good rest and have a precise aiming point. Coyotes can take alot of lead if the first shot is a bad one. Plus they are very fast learners, a missed coyote is an educated coyote, he will 10 times harder to call up a second time.

    4. Get some videos to watch, you will learn alot watching the pro's in action. One of the best I have seen is Randy Anderson' videos, he teaches alot of calling techniques and stand selection.

    5. Have patience and fun. In my opinion coyotes are one of the most challenging and exciting animals to hunt.

I promise, call in one coyote and you will hooked for life. Good luck!
Hunt very early morning as coyotes are most active then. They seem like kids that just are not ready for bed. Cloudy and rainy days are good too. Night is good of course. Call them is most reliable. Shoot a rifle that is good and flat out to 300 yards if you're not going to call them. 22-250 -.257 Weatherby magnum - .220 swift - 25-06. Of course these are just personal preferences and everybody has their own.
if your calling them be still because i've already had more then one run on me cause they saw me pickup my gun

if your hunting with a bow its is super super hard to have them not see you even if your in a tree. were i live there is an overlap in deer and yote season(well no season for the yotes) and i'll just take out the cross bow in the morning and call in the yotes. its a lot easier to shoot them with a crossbow then they are with a bow
hopefully they are plentyfull, and you have the permission to kill them, even though they are a nuscense, most states it is illegal to kill them. bait them in, with any dead animal you can find. shoot them with anything you have, you might have to shoot 300 yards or so, they are really cagey. I know people that have night scopes on 223 and shoot them at night, hope you can use this info.
Happy Hunter gives good advice. I have been calling coyotes for 30+ years. The most important thing is to watch the wind. If you can't have the wind in your face, hunt with a cross wind and watch the down-wind side. Try to sit in a position where the sun is at your back.

If you are going to try calling, try to get hooked up with someone that has experience, you can learn a lot in a short amount of time. The biggest this is persistance. Coyotes can be called at any time of the day. Be sure you check your state's game laws. Here in Kansas, you can hunt coyotes every day of the year.

    Good Luck!

What is the best deer hunting gun?

From a stand- a .270 for long distance knockdown power.

in the brush- a .35 Rem, its like a 30-30 only it shoots a larger 225 grain round. What is the best deer hunting gun?
The best deer hunting gun is one that you feel comfortable with and that you are profient with when it comes to hitting your target.

Like I have told my own son's that it isn't the rifle by itself that drops the deer it is where you place the shot.

Any hunter needs to know his firearm and be able to shoot it with confidence, knowing that he is going to hit is mark.

I myself perfer a 30-06 and the reason for this is it is good for most long range shots (depending on the bullet used) and also for taking about any game, not just deer. The 30-06 has a variety of ammo out there on the market and of course I reload with for mine.

The 30-06 can take just about all game from ground hogs to black bear and possibley elk and moose. You just have to know your firearm and be good at shooting it and placing your crosshairs on the most humane spot to dispatch the animal quickly. What is the best deer hunting gun?
You will get a different opinion and different cartridge or reason from each answer but most people are getting it right. You want a cartridge, bullet, rifle combination that you can proficiently shoot to humanely harvest the deer in the environment YOU hunt. Many people will use a lever action 30-30 or 45-70 because they like the traditional look and feel and their shooting is within the range of those weapons. Shotguns are a viable gun for deer under similar conditions, where the range is close and you can get good shot placement.

I'm out west were the ranges open up and the opportunities for game other than deer influence the selection of caliber and type of rifle. I have a 30-06 so I can hunt deer, elk, bear and antelope with the same weapon. I use a bolt action because it has the inherent properties I need for my hunting environment, ease of use and accuracy to 300+ yards. I could use a .243 for deer only, and then a .338 Ultra Mag for moose, elk and bear, but I don't see the need. Just my opinion, but the 223 just isn't enough weapon for humane deer hunting, not enough energy and bullet weight on target for my taste.I know some states allow it, but its not for me.

So, best deer hunting gun is something between 243 and 458 Winchester, possibly in a pistol with 44 Mag or 454 or 460. Might be the 16 or 12 gauge slug gun.

There are a broad selection of guns out there. You can spend $300, you can spend $3000, just find the gun that matches your abilities to shoot with the need to be an ethical hunter.
A lot of people use a 30 -30 which is ok. They have no long distance range. I just bought a Remington model 700BDL .270 caliber. This gun is so nice. It has a wide range of shells which will allow you to be accurate up to three hundred or more yards depending on skill. I also purchased a new Nikon Pro staff BDS scope which has a dot system setup to be effective at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. This gun is great. I would recommend a .270 or a 30 x 06 which is a nice rifle. There are many other great guns for deer hunting depends on the environment. Long range a 7mm mag or 300 winchester short mag. Short range under 150yards 30-30 or even a shotgun. Hope this helps. Below is the gun I use. Total cost just under 1000.00 with scope and mounts.
The one that's comfortable to carry for 8+ hours, will not kick the hell out of you when you fire it, accurate enough to get the job done at the distance needed %26amp; matched to you so you can use it instead of wounding the animals.

I would say Bolt action and that's as far as I can go not knowing what size deer your hunting or what distance you will be shooting. I don't know your body size or you history with

firearms so anything else I would say would be simple BS until I have that info.

Send me an email with your intentions and I can help futher.
If there were one answer to that question, there wouldn't be so many choices. Different circumstances call for different rifles and caliber choices, and the best that you can do is come up with a reasonable compromise for what you're likely to run into. Personally, I have maybe a dozen ';deer rifles,'; not to mention revolvers I also use on occasion, and the best one of the bunch tends to be the one I almost decided to take before I picked up the one I have with me!

It depends on regulations where YOU live. Here in Ohio during gun week you can only use a shotgun or handgun.

    I hunt with my 12 ga. 870 Express, scoped S%26amp;W 686 .357 with 8-3/8'; barrel, and T/C Contender with 10'; ported .357 barrel.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of different answers to this depending on what's legal where different answerers live/hunt.

Unless somebody is using a rimfire round or gun and ammo combo that is illegal, there's really no wrong answers here. I'm sure there be be some thumbs down to some answers simply because people have different opinions.
That is an impossible question to accurately answer. You will only get opinions.

The best gun for YOU will be one that fits you well, and one you enjoy practicing with. If you learn to shoot well, then your personal choice will end up being the best deer hunting gun.......in your opinion.

My personal favorite is a Remington 700 BDL in .25-06 Remington. Very accurate, light recoil, and fun to shoot.
it depends on your purposes. personally 1st i'd go with one you can carry a long time w/o your arm falling off. 2nd i'd find one realsonabbly priced 3rd depending on the size of the person shooting, the level of kick

then i'd bring these questions to your local gunshop (i use dick's sporting goods and have been extremely pleased with the experience and options there)
most of the hunting magazines do a yearly rating of the best hunting rifles in recent history, the common consensus is a Lever action 30-30, or a Remington 700 in 30-06.
Depends on the geography in which you are hunting. I like a .243 or 25-06 for open long range shots, and 30-30 or 30-06 for mixed or woods hunting.
    Mine. It's a Remington 788 carbine with 16.5'; barrel in .243.
Just my opinion as it gets results every time for me. Tikka T3 .308
    30-30. thats what i use.
For where? Brush or open country?
    270. win
I use a 9mm rifle, pretty effective, blasts a hole the size of a large mans fist into their chest.

    Colorado Elk Archery Hunting?

I booked a fully guided bowhunt on the Cross Mountain Ranch in northwest Colorado. It will be archery only in the middle of September. Has anyone ever hunted on this ranch? They participate in the ranching for wildlife program so i understand that it will be tough to find an elk over 300';. Any info would be appreciated.

Please post answers only related with my question. I dont care about public hunting and finding public land.Colorado Elk Archery Hunting?
If your hunting for a good size elk in colorado, northwest colorado is as good as any place in CO. If your looking for large elk and are willing to pay the non-resident fee (about the same as CO.) you may want to look into the northeast mountains of Arizona. There are twice the numbers (maybe more) large elk in AZ. Stay away from hunt units 5 and 6, look over in the white mountain ( greens peak, middle mountain, alpine ) areas and you'll find elk that will go over 300. There are some outfitters around alpine or get ahold of griffins in reserve New mexico, as they have a good handle on those parts of AZ... Colorado isn't all that its cracked up to be..... Wyoming, Arizona and Montana have alot better hunting and anywhere in CO.Colorado Elk Archery Hunting?
So, you booked a fully guided hunt, most likely with an expectation of a ';guaranteed'; trophy....

Well, I hope you get your trophy elk, but don't be at all surprised if the elk stay out of sight -- or at least, out of range of your bow. If you don't listen to your guide, and do what he/she tells you, you will end up being mightily dissapointed with your hunt.

And hunting ain't just about ';trophies'; either -- most of the fun is just bein' out there. If all you want is something to hang on your wall, go buy a trophy.

What Do You Need To Have To Buy An Hunting Rifle?

Like Liscense Ownership stuff like that Pleaseeee!!!What Do You Need To Have To Buy An Hunting Rifle?
License and if your address is not the same as your license you'll need some other form of identification such as vehicle registration. You must be at least 18 years of age. What Do You Need To Have To Buy An Hunting Rifle?
Well, it depends on your state of residence and if you have any criminal or mental issues that would restrict you from passing the Fed background check. Here in North Carolina, if you buy a rifle at Wally-World, say a Remington Model 770, you must be a resident of the state, be at least 18 years of age and be able to pass the instant Fed background check.
If you live in a free state in the US, you save up some money, wait until you are 18, and then go to a gun store and find one you like. You fill out a 4473 and the dealer calls it in. If you pass, you pay for the firearm and are on your way. Any other place, and your mileage will vary with the number of hoops you have to jump through.
...and we're supposed to guess where you live or are we supposed to give answers for every possibility? Try thinking a little before writing a ';question';.

With the information you gave the best answer I can give would be ';money';... but I suspect you knew that... but I could be wrong.
In most US states, if you're 18, all you need is money, a state ID, and a clean criminal record. There are a few, like Illinois and New Jersey where you need a license to buy a gun.
Most states allow you to be the age of 18. Please check with your local Police or Sheriff's Department... or go to your State's web site.
depends on where you live in most states in the US you just walk into a gun store and buy one with your ID for a background check

I'm working on a debate for inhumane deer hunting...any arguments or ideas?

Today, hunters and sportsmen are responible for the protection of endangered species and their habitat more than any other single group of people. In the past, however, several species were hunted to, or near, extinction. Furbearears, such as seals, beaver and otters, were highly valued for their pelts, and were trapped to near extinction by generations of over harvest. The bison (American buffalo) was nearly wiped off the face of the earth by over zealous fur traders and sportsmen mearly intent on killing to kill. The passenger pigeon was once the most populous bird in N. America and was hunted to extinction. (Plenty of info on this if googled.... http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-905鈥?/a> ). All of these sad stories and many more are a part of our heritage as hunters, whether we like to admit it, or not. Our forefathers saw the seemingly limitless supply of wild game, and took it for granted. They thought nothing of future generations or their impact on the environment. They never thought that humans had the potential to wipe out species, once, so great in number. Some killed simply to provide for themselves and their families, others used our abundant, yet delicate, natural resources, in search of the almighty dollar. If you read the link I posted, you will see that train loads of passenger pigeons were sent to cities, like New York, destined for the marketplace. These consumers did not see the dwindleing numbers of precious wildlife, only food to be conveniently purchased and consumed. Much like society today, their purposeful ignorance caused much of the problem. How often do people think of where their food comes from? They just buy it at Mcdonalds or the grocery store, and take it for granted. They don't physically see the rain forest being destroyed, so they do not worry about it. Acres upon acres burned or bulldozed, displacing and endangering millions of wild animals, all so gluttonous Americans can order off the dollar menu.

Luckily, things have changed. Rather than destroying wildlife, modern outdoorsmen are the first line of defense in protecting it. We have become the guardians of the woods and stewards of the wilderness. We have learned from our forefathers mistakes. Animals are harvested only when necessary, and only when nature can support it. Hunters pay for thousands upon thousands of acres of wildlife habitat for all to enjoy, including the game we hunt and love. We are responsible for the majority of effort in keeping all species alive and well, to be enjoyed now, and for generations to come. Ducks Unlimited, and Trout Unlimited, along with a multitude of other like minded organizations have saved many species of waterfowl from catastrophic ends. The problem of ignorance, sadly, remains. Many people, especially those in urban areas, see hunters as blood thirsty savages, intent only on killing to kill. They do not see the benefits hunters provide. Almost every time you, camp, or hike in a wildlife refuge, hunters helped pay for it. Hunters, in fact, pay the lion's share of all land put aside for wildlife, and continue to pay for conserving the wildlife in it. The white tail deer that you mentioned is probably the poorest example to use for hunting to extinction. It is now more populous than ever, and the herd has reached record numbers. Deer are doing so well that without hunters they would be in dire danger of disease caused by over population, as well as starvation. Hunting, which was at one time the bane of wild creatures big and small, is now their saving grace! I am proud to say, you will have a hard time pinpointing hunting as the cause of any population problems wildlife suffers from. Especially in the case of white tail deer. Wildlife conservation,in my mind, began with Teddy Roosevelt, but does not end there. It endures with every hunter to take the field in pursuit of the animals we love.I'm working on a debate for inhumane deer hunting...any arguments or ideas?
i live in PA and idiots out there that move from the city feed the deer and give them shelter from the hunters. deer need to be hunted and natural hunters like wolfs need to be brought back . and i don't want to hear that argurment about ';that they were here before us'; because if you want to go that way then move out of your house because deer where all over the country..they even have deer in the bronx.I'm working on a debate for inhumane deer hunting...any arguments or ideas?
Elk County Pennsylvania is named for the noble animal that once abounded in the region in great numbers, but rapid settlement and exploitation by early immigrants destroyed the herds.* By 1867, Elk had been completely eliminated from the State of Pennsylvania.* Unregulated hunting and habitat loss were the biggest factors leading to their demise.* .....The Pennsylvania Game Commission introduced Rocky Mountain Elk in the State from 1913 through 1926.* 177 were trapped and transferred Yellowstone National Park, and a Private Reserve in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, and released in central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Only the North- Central releases were successful.* '; Today the herd now numbers more than 800 as of February 12th 2008.......
If the hunter takes a good clean shot the deer will die before it hits the ground. This is true for both rifle/shotgun/muzzle loader and Bow hunting. I have seen Bow hunters make a good shot and the deer ran 10' and piled up DEAD. 10' is the body acting on adrenaline and muscle memory only. This is much faster than the slow lingering death PETA causes by breaking into labs and stealing animals being used in drug trials.

What is inhumane is the fact that PETA KILLED 97% of the animals it took into its shelters.

While living in NJ PETA broke in to a game farm that raised phesents and dove for hunting. They let all the birds go and 90+% of them died that night from being hit by cars of because they did not know how to get away from predators. These are the people who are against hunting in any way.
Deer will overpopulate without hunters. Plus my uncle and his family probably would have went hungry without it.
I don't hunt myself, but I grew up where hunting is very common.

My take on it is, there are some people for whom hunting is very important survival-wise - they get their quota, and that feeds them for the remainder of the winter. I'm okay with that.

There are others who just hunt for sport, to get the rack on the wall, and don't need the meat. I dislike that.

You buy chicken in the store, a chicken died for you to eat it. So, if you shoot a deer for food for many months, it's not much different (and is cost effective). It feeds you.

If you just shoot it to get your rocks off, that's cruel.

I think if you're going to kill an animal, do it for the time-old reason of creating a food source. If you'll eat it, that's fine.

If you just want to kill for the sake of killing, I'm totally against that.
    here we go.....
what argument are you bringing to the table%26gt;%26gt; more specifics please
There is no question that in earlier times, man was responsible for the demise of several species of animal. IN those days, the animal population was viewed as being infinite in number. There were no game laws and people were just not as aware of their effect on the animal herds. Now, with modern herd management and game laws, animals are no longer being hunted to extinction. In fact, the money that is raised from the sale of ammo, guns, etc. has not only brought many of these animals back from the brink of extinction, they are now flourishing. Actually, when you look at animals over the long haul, man has had an extremely minor affect on their becoming extinct. By far the greatest cause of extinction has been loss of habitat and climatic changes.
Well, whitetail deer were almost extinct in Arkansas. The estimated population around the time of the great depression was only a few thousand.

But thanks to the effort of conservative minded hunters the deer population is now estimated at around 2 million.

Let ';PETA'; put that in there pipes and smoke it.

    Miketyson26
which side are you taking? I'd help, but first I need to know your answer.
For deer hunting we have a conservation set up where we can control the number of deer we harvest in a year. and like someone said natural predators have been eliminated in some areas. but the government has been reintroducing predators into those places. a good example is the wolves in Idaho. They were reintroduced in the mid 90's and because they are considered an endangered species they cannot be shot. Because of this the deer and elk population has been steadily decreasing, increasing the possibility that deer and elk might not survive in Idaho much longer.
If you are looking for against, then you won't find nothing here. If it is for, then you probably already read enough to fill 12 pages by now.
Have you ever been deer hunting? What do you mean by inhumane? If properly trained there is nothing inhumane about it.
It really depends on where you are hunting. Some places really don't have a lot of deer but am from ND and we have deer around every corner so for us to hunt them its no big deal because they are so over populated. What you need to be careful of is the people who go out there and kill the deer and just leave them right there don't take them or eat just leave them where they killed them. They way it works in ND is you have to apply for a license and tags if they have them you will get one. For bucks you go into a lottery and then you find out if you get a tag for a buck. For bucks you have to apply really early to make sure you get one. So as far as being inhumane well it just depends on where you are hunting how many deer there are and how people are know for there hunting? Do some research on how many deer were found were you live that were just left there that will help you find out about your own state. Another good thing would be to call the game and fish department were you live and ask them that question to see what they have say.
I don't think anyone here would debate for, or in favor of, inhumane deer hunting.
The most inhumane method I can think of is to ignore them.

Allow them to overpopulate an area and die from disease and starvation. The lucky ones will get hit by cars, or be shot because they are destroying someone's garden, but most will die a slow and lingering death by starvation.

The best way to prevent this from happening is to promote sport hunting. Sport hunters thin the deer herd to a sustainable level in the most humane possible way.

    Doc Hudson
A person who eats meat, has no right to critisize hunters. Believe killing a deer with a well placed round is much more humane than the way most slaughter houses kill cows! Many drive rods through the cows ears, which is much slower than a bullet. Cows in line to be slaughtered smell the blood, hear the sounds of other cows in death throws. Deer usually die quickly, if not instantly, experiencing no fear before their death. Without hunting, deer populations reach numbers that cause them to die from deseases such has chronic wasting desease, blue tongue, etc. Also as populations rise, there are more deaths to dear and people from traffic accidents. Dear populations, by the way are estimated to be higher now than even at the times of the pilgrims.
Deer are responsible for more deaths in the United States than any other animal. About 150 people per year die from automobile accidents involving deer. So which, is more inhumane killing humans or killing overpopulated deer?
    always take well aimed shots

my Idea of inhumane deer hunting is when some one takes a shot that they are doubting they can take cleanly which usually ends up that they are searching for a wounded deer all day
If you are thinking that hunting causes extinction, you need to become educated. There are more deer in North America today than when our forefathers landed here hundreds of years ago. That is the honest truth. Hunting is anecessary management tool, and the money spent by hunters helps a number of conservation organizations.
I'm Pro- Inhumane deer hunting. Shot a deer in the leg and when they can't run poke them with sticks. That would be Inhumane.
Natural predators have been eliminated from many environments, allowing deer to overpopulate. Humane hunting is an effective control that also can generate revenue for conservation programs.
Yet again, another clown with a ';debate'; working on a ';project';.

Post this on the bunny ranch please.

    What r some hunting advantages?

whatever you do, DEFINATELY wear an orange vest. Deer CAN'T see it and other hunters CAN, so they won't shoot you instead of the deer. It is a legal requirement in most areas as well.

Do shower, but don't use soap or anything else with a scent as they will smell it. Some places sell special scents that they claim attract deer, so check out your local hunting and killing store.

If you put out a salt block in advance of hunting season, deer will start to come around regularly so you'll have a good area to hunt in and won't have to spend the day schlepping around and making noise.

You can also get platforms that attach to trees so you can sit up there and wait for whatever you're hunting to stroll by.

Make sure you have a license for whatever you're hunting because if you get caught out of season or without a license, you're in deep trouble. Most towns have hunting guides available that advise of seasons and license costs. Attend a hunter's safety course. You won't regret it.What r some hunting advantages?
i am a girl... but what Justin said, I would go with that. and dont shower the day b4 u go ok%26gt;??? The deer know ';Old Spice'; from ';Woods- I- run -around - in'; Ok? My dad used to hunt and I remember holding my nose for the whole day, because he didn't shower and mom told me '; your dad is going hunting.'; Use camoflouge ( sp?) on your face and and don't wear that disgusting neon orange!!! Deer aren't color blind, and they can spot you up to 10 miles away from where ever you are at wearing that stuff. Ps, Wal-mart has great cammo paint and scent cover-up. Get some, and get a helmet from the army/navy surplus, to cover your head. They can smell hair stuff too. What r some hunting advantages?
cammo and animal scent... be hidden and smell like what the animal will come to. and also a high powered scope too.

  • Question on when/how to use Buck Jam? Deer hunting?

I got the sweet corn stuff and I know you just dump it wherever but should you put it out a few days before you hunt, will it last, or just dump it the day of the hunting or maybe the day before? How should it be applied?Question on when/how to use Buck Jam? Deer hunting?
Dump at least 24 hrs before, so the deer can find it.Question on when/how to use Buck Jam? Deer hunting?
i think its best to pour it out on the ground. because if you put it on a stump, or some sort of tree, they'll only come to that spot. but if you pour it on the ground, it will attract more deer and once they find it more will come and start diggin up the ground to find more. and i would put it out bout a day and half before ya start huntin. that way they can find it, get used to it, and start tryin to find more (even though they wont). i use it. i have the apple. i really like usin it

My uncle accidentally shot off all his limbs in a hunting accident.?

What can I give him for his birthday that won't remind him of this tragedy? My uncle accidentally shot off all his limbs in a hunting accident.?
I think it all depends on what his name is. what you are really looking for though, is something that gives him purpose. And afterall, what do you call a guy with no arms and no legs that is being shot out of a cannon? SAM. So If his name was art, just put him in a storefront window. If his name is bob, throw him in a pool. If his name was skip, tie him behind a car. If his name was phil, throw him in a hole. If his name was matt, put him in front of the door. If his name was sandy, throw him on a beach. If his name was frank, get him a BBQ. If his name was Stu, put him in your hot tub. If his name is jack, stick him under your car. Of course there is just one more question. If his name really is Art, and I suspect that it probably is, before you put him in the storefront window, make sure that he didn't shoot off his tounge in a hunting accident as well, or else he would be tasteless art.My uncle accidentally shot off all his limbs in a hunting accident.?

Bow, rifle, shotgun, revolver for rabbits, pheasant, grouse, squirrel, woodcock, dove, quail, groundhog, crows, whitetail deer, turkey, Elk, bear.*

    Mine is regular deer season.

    H
I live in the mountains of Floyd County, Virginia and love to hunt white tail deer here. We have a 4 week rifle season that starts the Saturday before Thanksgiving and can kill 5 deer. This year I'm using my Ruger model 77 chambered for the 300 Winchester Magnum. I reload all my rifle bullets and get an extra feeling of satisfaction and pride from hunting with bullets I custom load for each rifle. When I'm in the woods hunting on my land it makes me glad that I live in such a great country where we are free to do such things. I thank God for giving me this life and all the things I have here, and I hope to leave my land better than it was when I moved here so those who come after me can also enjoy it like I do.
i would have to say bow season for deer is at the way top then ducks season

Where can i go hunting if i do not have a permit?

    In your dreams.

    Go buy a hunting license!

DocWhere can i go hunting if i do not have a permit?
In Virginia if your between the ages of 12 and 65 and are not an American Indian, the only land you can hunt on without a permit is:

    Your land

    Your parent's land

    Your parent-in-law's land

    Your grandparent's land

    Your grandparent-in-law's land

    Your children's land

or land that you are renting and living onWhere can i go hunting if i do not have a permit?
it depends on what you are hunting for and who you are.

For example, in michigan, you can kill black birds all year round on your own property if you are a farmer without a permit.

in somalia you can hunt anything, even people and its not against the law.
My recommendation for your first hunt is to go hunt up a permit. Do it right and you will have no problems. If you try ot circumvent the law and get caught, the fines are pretty darned stiff. You don't need the trouble. Get legal first than enjoy the hunt.
well, most states allow year round coyote and feral pig hunting without a permit and you can also go on hunting farms too, which also don't permits, just consent from the owner.
most states require a consrvation licence to hunt varmits. do the right thing. get the licence to hunt

Actually, he would probably dress up in hunter's clothing for a photo op. Just like he does for the military. We can see pictures of him in an airforce pilot's jumpsuit, but he would not go to war.

If you hunted in another state , do you have to get anew hunting if you trside in another state?

Yes, because you're not authorized to hunt in the other state. If you hunted in another state , do you have to get anew hunting if you trside in another state?
Absolutly YES. If you hunted in another state , do you have to get anew hunting if you trside in another state?
Are you trying to ask about hunting licenses? If so, they are issued at the state level, and you need one for each state you hunt in.

If you do not reside in the state you have to get a non-resident license, which usually is more expensive.

If, on the other hand, you're asking about hunter safety cards, the answer is no. While each state issues it's own, they are universally recognized by other states.
    Yes.

WELL I DON'T HUNT. SO I GUESS I WOULD GO WITH KENNEDY .BUT MY TRUE THOUGHT IS ---ACCIDENTS ARE ACCIDENTS .AND THAT GOES FOR BOTH CHANEY AND KENNEDY.
I definitely rather go with Mr. Cheney!
Kennedys leave dead victims. Cheney was just using birdshot, so no lasting injuries if you're wearing shooting glasses as you should be.

How about if I could go on a hunting trip with Ted Kennedy, on which I have to drive across a bridge while holding a loaded shotgun facing his big fat head?

  • So we have been going ghost hunting, any advice?

So...my cousin and I have been ghost hunting, we've gone twice. And both times we have caught soemthing, audio and photo. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions about how to make contact. We have a voice recorder and a camera, or any tools that might seem handy! Thanks guys!! So we have been going ghost hunting, any advice?
My best advice that I can give you is for you to ghost hunt during the day, not night. Daytime is when Ghosts are most active. .So we have been going ghost hunting, any advice?
I am with Nesse! The best EVP I have gotten and some of the best photos have been during the day. Also the ghosts are far more friendly during the day than at night. I have an EVP that scared me pretty good which we got at about 9pm. I researched the area we got it from and found out a man committed suicide in his car in that area.

All you need is a voice recorder (is it a digital recorder? Those are the best) and a camera. Digital cameras get you your pictures right away, but some of the best pictures I have were taken with a disposable camera or a cannon 35mm.

You might try using a simple compass. Supposedly it will spin when a ghost is around. I have had the needle move before, but never spin. Also try setting a ball on the ground and put tape around it to mark where it it. Ask any spirits in the area to move the ball. This does work. I have used it in houses I have investigated. Good luck!
The best tool you can bring along is a healthy dose of skepticism. Most things attributed to paranormal experiences can be explained by very normal, every-day things. People tend to find whatever it is they're looking for, so if you go hoping to find a ghost you're likely going to attribute ghostly qualities to things otherwise explained away through mundane means.
Old places with lots of history that have undertaken recent disturbances in the protery or remodeling of the house are awesome places to make contact and bring back excellent footage and audio. Reason being ghosts often attach themselves to their house/land they once lived and are content with the state they left it in. When new owners come and modernize or disturb anything, the unrested spirits become upset.

You may even go where you believe there has been contact with Ghosts before to do your hunt. Leave recording devices unattended and come back to see if you have anything. Sit in a room and ask questions (if you know who you are trying to contact, ask questions that are specifically for them).

Digital cameras are the best for pictures (and some amazing pictures have turned up from ppl just walking around flashing the camera every few frames). camera phones, polaroid and other cameras are known to not pick up light well. They reoccuring show light flashes on the developed photos that are mistaken paranormal but turn out to be duds.

Ghosts dont' turn up on negatives for future reference. If your ';ghost'; some how does, then suspect it to be dust or some other natural phenomena.

a great site you may want to check out for ghost hunting materials or a cool place to post your sucess is ghoststudy.com they are based in oregan I believe and support the ghost hunting community online. besides the pictures are awesome and it's neat to see fakes and listen to some audio!
lol well nessie sorry to say your wrong. Ghost are most active when most humans are not...around 2-6AM. Yeah just try Quiji boards and stuff. Good luck seeing any...video and tapes are you best bet for now.

I want to get a good hunting rifle, i want to get a similar rifle as the m16 but using bigger caliber rounds.?

im in the marines and i love the m16 and a really good shot, i want a hunting rifle like it and where to find itI want to get a good hunting rifle, i want to get a similar rifle as the m16 but using bigger caliber rounds.?
Congratulations! You're one of the first I've seen on this forum that realizes the limitations of the .223 ';poodle shooter';. Happy to see that someone else knows the pop-gun round is for WOUNDING people, not KILLING game.

To answer your question, there are several gun makers that are building Armalite clones in larger calibers than 5.56. Most chamber them in the new 6mm SOCOM, but even that is marginal for game, even if you can find soft-point hunting loads.

I personally would go to Bushmaster, Inc. who, I know for a fact, are turning out an Armalite pattern clone, a close copy of the old AR-10, chambered in 7,62 NATO(.308 Win.) the round used by Marine sniper units, and the old M-60 machine gun. The 7,62 will bring down anything you want, and, with the availability of surplus ammo, you'll be able to recoup some of the coin you'll be shelling out for the price of the rifle, altho I don't think it'll be near the $2500 others mentioned.

Best bet: go to http://www.gunbroker.com and either run a search for AR-15 M-16 rifles, or just browse the modern semi-auto category.

Semper Fi, Mac!I want to get a good hunting rifle, i want to get a similar rifle as the m16 but using bigger caliber rounds.?
The .223 is not a good hunting cartridge. You want something with more knock down power. The .223 in FMJ has penetration power, but it not good for game. Also, most hunting rifles are bolt action or lever action, which are more reliable and easier to aim.

It depends on what you are hunting, but a Marlin 336 lever action 30/30 is a good all around gun for deer and other hunting. You might also try a 30-06 or 7mm.

If you are insistent on a semi-auto, check out the Ruger mini-thirty style rifles. I believe they are .223, but may come in other calibers. They are around $700. Much cheaper than the civilian AR-15 (M-16 version) which is $2000. Go to a local gun shop and browse around or check out www.gunbroker.com for model styles and prices.
Get a Ruger Mini 30. It is 30 Cal. and kicks ***....Nice rifle
    Bound's hubby here:

You can purchase an AR15 type rifle in cartridges based on the .308 WInchester family ... and they are referred to as AR-10s.

AR-10 type rifles are manufactuerd by: Armalite, DPMS/Panther Arms, Fulton Armory, Rock River and I think Bushmaster. See links below.

Please keep in mind, while you will be thoroughly familiar with the design and function because of your military experience, you may be limited by state game laws. Some states, such as Pennsylvania, prohibit the use of semi-automatic rifles for hunting.

    Good luck!
The M-16 is a fantastic rifle, but you'll eventually want to get a semi auto in a larger caliber. Take a look at the Browning BAR, it comes in a variety of calibers and is really neat to look at.
The ar15 in 223 is good for animals up to the size of small deer, but you need to use a good hunting bullet.

You can also get the ar15 chambered in 17 remington, 20 tactical, 204 ruger, for varmits. For larger game you can use 6mmx45, 6mm PPC, 6.5 grendel, 6.8 spc, 300 whisper, 458 socom, 50 AE, 50 beowulf as well as others.

You can get a 50 BMG single shot upper if you want to hunt elephant. Native americans use the 50 BMG for dispatching a whale after harpooning it.

For hunting, it would be best to get a match grade barrel without a flash suppressor, and equip the rifle with a scope if you are hunting small animals at long range.
also look at the the super shorts. I think there is a 25 with similar ballistics to a 25-06
Accuracysystems.com sells an AR-10 chambered for .300WSM this is great pwr in a small package. I had my Mini-14 done w/a 22'; 1';dia. barrel and damn it's heavy but a tack driver! I kept it @ .223 for varmint.

Ar-10's are usually .308 w/10rd. mag but there are alternatives! Depends on how big of game U want to take down!~ I think thae rebarreled rifles start @ $1200 don't quote me though!
You can get AR types in just about any caliber now, from .22LR to .50BMG, .30'06, .308, 6.8, 7.62X39, 9mm, .50 Beowolf, just about whatever you want for $$$$. They can get pretty pricey though. Look at the ads in Shotgun News or shotgunnews.com

    Lauer Custom Weaponry~lauerweaponry.com, Stag Arms~stagarms.com (left handed ARs among others), Sabre Defence Industries~sabredefence.com, wilsoncombat.com $$$$, rguns.net, dsarms.com, atlanticfirearms.com, armalite.com, dpmsinc.com, jtdistributing.com, MAPartsInc.com.

You should be able to get anything you can afford. Myself, I'd rather have an M-14 type.
The AR-10 is a 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester) and the AR-30 is a .338 Lapua. Both will work well hunting.

    H
Ideamanbm and Grizzly9 beat me to the answer, but I agree with them 100%. The AR has indeed evolved into an excellent multi-caliber platform. Personally I really like the 6.8SPC conversions that can be attached to any AR15/M16 lower.
Bushmaster makes the best AR-style rifles available to civilians. Go for a Bushmaster in 7.62x51mm. This is a NATO round that is significantly larger and more powerful than the standard 5.56mm.

The 7.62x51 is known to civilians as the ';.308 Winchester';. Many hunting rifles are chambered in .308, and it is very effective for hunting. It is similar in power and ballistics to, say, the 30.06 Springfield round.
The Cobb Arms Multi Caliber Rifle (MCR)

Basic AR-15 parts and stock that has upper receivers for calibers from 9 x 19 mm Parabellum to .338 Lapua Magnum.
If you dont have the $2000 to drop an a AR-15 or AR-10 (the civilian version of the M-16) Then order a kit and build your own and save some $. Also be careful because in some states like the Peoples Republic of California they are considered assult riffle and are illegal.
The AR-10 is essentially an AR-15, a semi-automatic M-16, that accepts an .308 as opposed to the .223 that the AR-15/M-16 fires.

According to the Armalite web site, these rifles cost about $2,126.00

    Bye,Baby bunting Fathers gone a hunting.Mother's gone a milking, sister's gone a silking.?

Brother's gone to buy a skin to wrap the baby bunting in .

What does this rhyme mean ?Bye,Baby bunting Fathers gone a hunting.Mother's gone a milking, sister's gone a silking.?
    As a child, being raised over seas, I was sung this song in a different version. It was ';Cry Baby Bunting';

The words were to explain the hardships of those of frontier times. It was a song which was sung as a lullaby to help children go to sleep and it was more for the tune , not the lyrics.

It is a mother telling her child called a bunting , that the father has gone hunting to catch food(rabbit) which they would skin, dry out and use during the brittle winters to wrap around the child to keep them warm.

The furthest they can find any documentation to the song and lyrics is that it was composed and published

around 1784. It is a folklore and there are several different lyrics which go to it, depending on where you live at which version you were raised with.

This is the English version which I was raised with and raised my children with:

    Cry Baby Bunting,

    Daddy's gone a hunting

Gone to fetch a rabbit skin

To wrap the baby bunting in.

Thank-you for sharing with me the version you gave, I have never heard it sung that way.Bye,Baby bunting Fathers gone a hunting.Mother's gone a milking, sister's gone a silking.?
This rhyme was actually one of several that occurred during the Great Plague. The father has gone to get food for the family, the mother is doing chores, the sister is buying thread and brother is buying the shroud for the dead baby. Baby bunting is already dead.

Another such rhyme is 'ring around the rosey, pockets full of posey, ashes, ashes they all fall down'. this relates to the ring of roses that where placed outside the homes of known plague cases. The posey is a flower that was thought to discourage the plague and the ashes were from the burn corpses and homes. ';All fall down'; refers to the number of people who simply fell down dead from the disease.
Sounds to me like it's fortelling of the baby's death due to negligence by the family, thus the ';Bye'; part. If every member of the family is busy doing chores, then something could (or will) happen to the baby.

Yes, I own it and I use it.

    www.nealsoutdoors.com
I know allot of people that use them actually. Good reliable all around gun. I personally use it for trap shooting and sporting clays. If you're looking for a deer and waterfoul set-up, I would recommend an 18.5'; slug barrel for deer and a 26-30'; Barrel for Waterfoul and Turkey. The nice thing about the slug barrel is you can mount a scope or aim-point sight directly to it, so when you switch out barrels, there is no sighting in necessary.

On the cheaper end, you can always get it with a 24-26'; barrel that accepts choke tubes. You would have to check their website for the names/models/range-of-use. You should not need more than 3; ex. 1 for Deer (Slugs/Buckshot), 1 for Waterfoul/Turkey (Tighter Choke for longer range), and 1 for general point-shoot hunting like rabbit and grouse.

Just remember this when selecting the Barrel length: a longer barrel will provide a more accurate long-distance shot, but it's also heavier and harder to manoeuvre in tight bush, like when stalking a Buck. If you can afford the 2nd Barrel, do it. It's well worth it.

What bullet grain should I use hunting elk in So CO with my Rem 300 Short Action Ultra Mag? Avg dist 1-300 yds

I'm using a 180 grain but to be honest the price difference from a 180 grain to a 165 grain box of shells is $30. If I could successfully use a 165 grain I would do it. What bullet grain should I use hunting elk in So CO with my Rem 300 Short Action Ultra Mag? Avg dist 1-300 yds
The answer is yes and no at the same time.

I have killed elk with a 30-06 in 165 grains. It truly depends on the bullet. I have shot Deer with 168gr, ballistic tips and not penetrated the entire body on a broadside shot.

What you need to buy is a bullet that will hold together in a big animal with tough hide like an elk. A bonded core is essential, or maybe a Barnes X.

The gun you bought is waaay more than you neen in the way of power. However if the bullet is constructed in such a manner as to give rapid explosive expansion, then it may not penitrate to the vitals well, if the shot is quartered away or towards regarless of its speed. What I suggest is that you get a bullet that will hold its integrity in a heavy animal, and I know its available in lighter than 180.

If you know that your shots are going to be 300 yards, then get a barnes x bullet in 150 to 165, and zero at 200. I would emagin(only because I do not have experience with a 300saum), that the lighter bullet will offer some flatter trajectory, and even allow for longer(350 yards), shots with the same drop of a 180 in the same caliber.

PS The difference in price of your two rounds is about what it costs for a box of hot high quality30-06 rounds. Makes a great argument for the versitility and economics of the ought 6.

Either way I wish you good luck. What bullet grain should I use hunting elk in So CO with my Rem 300 Short Action Ultra Mag? Avg dist 1-300 yds
If you are using a SAUM, you didn't buy it for the cheap shells, you bought it to shoot flat over a long distance. You are shopping at the wrong place if it costs $30 more for a box of Remington CLUB 180 gr shells over a box of Remington PSPCL 165gr shells. The difference should be less than $15 and is often only around $10 depending on where you shop.

The 180gr CLUB makes 3501 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle which is more than the lighter loads. If you are hunting Elk at 300 yards, just stick with the 180gr CLUB as that is what they are designed to do.
Actually, according to http://gunsandammomag.com/ballistics/, Federals 165 gr SP produces 2200 ft lbs of energy at 300 yards . . . and the Federal 180 gr SP only generates 2085 ft lbs of energy. Guess the decision is pretty obvious! HaHaHa . . . . Nope . . . there is a Winchester 180 gr SP listed in the same ballistics chart that produces 2439 ft lbs of energy at 300 yards; this is the most stopping power listed by those listed. Winchester also lists a 150 gr HP that produces 2285 ft lbs of energy at 300 yds. Personally, I鈥檇 go with a 180 gr triple shock if if 300 wsm were my weapon of choice, in many states you are required to use an expanding bullet, to ensure a clean kill. Although the bullet grain has a great deal to do with stopping power; what is more pertinent to me is sectional density and the ballistic coefficient, as they relate to accuracy and penetration. Check out my resources below if you wish.
Save your old brass from the range, burn a couple of boxes of the cheap ammo. Ask the other range users who might be reloading and have them load some 180 and some 220 grain rounds for you. That would probably be cheaper than factory rounds. Then use those at the range. Decide if the different loads are usable in your gun. For your hunt use the factory loads that seem right. I prefer a heavier round (220) for big animals, 180 is OK for deer, muleys, for elk a 220. Of course the Roosevelt are a larger size, 800+ dressed.
are you able to make the 300yard shot? That kind of shooting takes some range time and quite a few rounds expended.

I dont know how much you will invest in this hunt, rooms, gas , fees, guides, etc. I would hate to miss the shot of my life over a few bucks worth of ammo.

What bullet weight does your rifle shoot best at the distances your willing to take a shot at? Eithier weight will kill the elk...if it goes where you expect it to.

If I was shootin a expensive factory round I'd learn to reload for it. But what do I know....I tote a .30-06 that kills deer and elk for $18 a box...even cheaper if I roll my own with premium bullets.

    Just my .02
I'd say 165's would be fine, I don't think the elk will notice the difference between a 150 gr. and 220 gr. bullet. I do highly recommend using the best bullet you can afford, Fail Safe's, Nosler Partition, Barnes X, but a good soft point would probably do the job just fine.
I think your comparing a premium bullet to a standard bullet for that difference in cost. If the rifle shoots well with the 180, I would stick with that.

You could look into reloading in the future or a slightly less expensive 180 grain bullet.
Yes a 165 premium bullet ( Nosler Partion, Barnes Triple Shock ) will work just fine if you put it in the Boiler Room, but I prefer a 180gr in my .300 Weatherby only because my rifle seems to like them better.
Find the one that patterns best out of your particular gun. Something in the 150 to 180 grain size would be recommended.
Short answer: 165 grain will do just fine. Go to the range and see for yourself.

Hunting camo realtree vs mossy oak?

Okay, I have all mossy oak camo, but realtree seems to fit my area better. I figure that the difference in patterns is very minimal. I want to stick with mossy oak, is this okay? Note: I got a bear to come into 25 yards while wearing solid green pants and a solid orange hat, so I don't think the specific pattern matters that much.Hunting camo realtree vs mossy oak?
Wear your preference.Hunting camo realtree vs mossy oak?
Camo is Camo. deer dont necessarily see in color. they see only a few shades. The reason you sit in a blind or on a tree stand is that you have a backing, and that prevents them from seeing you. Personally i have mossy oak as well. As long as your hunting in a dense area then camo is good. if in snow or high high grass then they make other special patterns for those terrains
CAMO IS A FASHION STATEMENT TODAY.TRUE THEY

Stick with mossy oak you will do just fine the brand of camo doesn't matter as long as your outline is broke up then it is no big deal.
    Mossey Oak is better camo.
Bears can smell up to 5 miles, pattern do not matter!*
color is not that important, motion is! just sit still and you can be dressed like a clown, it dosent really matter!

I was wondering what the best hunting gun is preferably one for deer hunting.?

You are going to get many different answers, so the first place to start is with cartridge choice. Most states have a minimum caliber/energy threshold for deer hunting that begins with the .243 Winchester cartridge. There are some states which allow .223 as a deer cartridge but you need to know that most people prefer something beyond the bare minimum for ethical and humane shots. There are a wide variety of deer/elk/bear/moose etc, cartridges that work very well, and if you decide to hunt species other than deer that would be the rifle to use on deer also. For example, I hunt both deer and elk so my cartridge choice is 30-06 Rem because it provides the best ballistic qualities I would want for both type animal over a proper hunting distance shot of 400 yards;which is near the edge of energy requirements and shooting abilities for most people and cartridges. Cartridge selection is also influenced by hunting terrain, I could be hunting anywhere from deep forest to high desert while in Idaho or Washington, other western states, so I want a cartridge/gun combination that matches the more extreme terrain. I could use a lever action 30-30 or 45-70 in the woods, but that isn't the choice if I might need a 300 yard shot on a 7 pointer. I have links to cartridge/game use below.

As to type of rifle, bolt actions are easiest to understand, use and become proficient with. Bolt actions are ';usually';more inherently accurate than other actions. Each rifle also responds to ammo differently, so being accurate takes finding the proper bullet weight, powder charge and matching the gun barrel harmonics to shot well. In factory ammo that means trying a few types, with reloading it means working up a load. deer and other similar game need to be hit with a bullet that penetrates well, retains it's weight and transfers its energy to the animal, so a controlled expansion or quality bullet is best. BONDED bullets or Barnes type bullets are great for hunting bigger game.

As for specific manufacturers, you have price ranges and products from single shot rifles near $250 to several thousands of dollars. Good entry level guns are from Savage/Stevens,Weatherby Vanguard/Howa 1500, Marlin XL-7, Mossberg, and Remington 700 ADLs. these are from $300 to $600 and can be found even at WalMarts for good prices, so it pays to look around. Better Savages, Remington and Ruger M77 plus Tikka and some CZ 550 are at the $500 mark and up. Brownings, Sako, Specific Remington models and others are at $700. There are a lot of guns above $1000, such as Nosler and Kimber.

You should get a scope of good quality, so expect to spend $200 for a base Nikon, more for Leupold and other quality scopes. 3x9 40mm is pretty much the standard scope for deer hunting now.

Personally, I am planning on getting my son a Tikka T3 in .270 and he will be good for deer and elk. I might just have him use the 30-06 with reduced recoil cartridges if he wants to do that. There is no need to buy a Magnum cartridge for deer hunting in N. America, but if you find a bargain deal on a rifle in 270 WSM that would be a great thing too.

I've hunted since 1973, never had to take a 2nd shot at anything because I like shooting my rifle and I practice a lot. Key to good hunting is enjoying the rifle, and placing an ethical and humane shot in the right place.I was wondering what the best hunting gun is preferably one for deer hunting.?
For hunting at close range (under 100 yards) then surely consider the Marlin lever gun chambered in 30/30........

    http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/C鈥?/a>

For longer ranges over 100 yards consider a bolt action rifle chambered in .270.....

http://www.remington.com/products/firear鈥?/a>I was wondering what the best hunting gun is preferably one for deer hunting.?
A 12-gauge shotgun, with interchangeable barrels, would be a fine choice, especially if you live in a state in which hunting with rifles isn't allowed. (Illinois and Ohio come to mind.) You can use a rifled slug barrel for deer, then switch barrels for waterfowl or other birds.
If by gun, you mean caliber... Anything from about a .243 up to a .35 in caliber will work fine.

Most states allow semi auto rifles, while a few don't. You can also consider bolt action, pump, lever action or break action single shot. Good starter brands would be Remington, Winchester, Ruger, Marlin, Savage or Tikka.
I myself prefer the 308 but you can use a 270 30-30 or 30-06 it really depends on the ranges you will be taken shots from and what your state allows and last but not least personal preference but you can check winchester.com and they can give you a rough guideline as to what rifle round can down what animals, plus you need to consider how available the rounds are in your area in my area 308 and 30-06 can be hard to get, so do your research before you choose
Your question calls for an opinion. I believe that the .25-06 Remington is one of the very best deer calibers out there when using the 115 to 120 grain bullet. Mine is a Remington 700 ADL bought new in 1974 for less than $120. It is still my favorite deer rifle. Of course any caliber from say 6mm to .30-06 works well so long as the shooter does his part. Anything smaller than a .243 is too small for deer and anything bigger than a .30-06 is an over-kill.

    H
Depends on where you're hunting. Some states only allow shotguns. If you know where you'll be hunting, you would get a lot better answer, specially if you live or hunt in an area that allows shotguns only.
Everyone is going to say something different. I use a .270. It's more a personal preference.
30-06 most versatile cartage and plentiful ammo
    I love my .270. A 30.06, .280, .243, and 7mm are all good choices.

Is there any online education where it dosen't show ur degree as online when hunting for a job?

i know this question maybe asked many times, but i suspect that online education is not as worthy as physical education when hunting for a job. so i would like a online university where it does not mentioned ';online education'; when getting my degree. can you help?Is there any online education where it dosen't show ur degree as online when hunting for a job?
The perception that an online degree is not as worthy as an on-campus degree came from the early online colleges that weren't accredited. This isn't the case anymore. In fact, most major colleges and universities have online programs now.

First, don't worry if the college says ';online'; or not. If an employer judges you by where you got your degree rather than judging you on your abilities, you don't want to work for them anyway. They are more interested in status than employees who actual provide useful skills.

Second, research the schools you are considering, and make sure they are accredited by the same organizations that most colleges are accredited by. I know there are some national accreditation agencies and several regional accreditation agencies that you should look for. See the link below.

Last, many online colleges hire the same instructors who teach their on-campus classes to teach online classes. I know this simply because I've done it. I've been teaching at the local community college for years, and I was asked to teach online classes for them as well. It's the same faculty. Plus, a lot of college classes are taught by adjuncts (part-time instructors). Most adjuncts teach at more than one college, so the person teaching your class could be teaching at Harvard as well for all you know.Is there any online education where it dosen't show ur degree as online when hunting for a job?
If this concerns you, select an institution that offers both traditional and on-line delivery methods.

Check out www.baker.edu out of Michigan.

They have a large brick and mortar campus as well as a 100% on-line degree program.

I rec'd my degree from the on-line program and my degree and transcript look just like those earned from the traditional program.

It is a very affordable program at about $180.00 per credit hour.

4 semesters per year with 6-week sessions per semester. If you can handle reading a ton of e-mail and blogs, on-line may be for you. But it is not a cake walk. There are a ton of assignments.

Not only does my Fortune 200 employer accept the degree, they paid for!
Everything The Grit says is true. I just wanted to add a few things. If you want a degree that doesn't indicate that you got it online, find a degree program at a state school. For example, an MBA degree from Florida State University has no mention of whether you completed the degree online or not. If you're looking for some good, inexpensive state schools, here are a few.

Fort Hays State University - http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege

    Peru State University - http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprog鈥?/a>

    University of Wyoming - http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/

All of the above are between $130 and $140 per semester credit hour, doesn't matter where you live.

    Good luck

Should the hunting category be banned from Yahoo answers?

Sports %26gt; Outdoor Recreation %26gt; HuntingShould the hunting category be banned from Yahoo answers?
You can't ban a section on hunting anymore than you can stop people hunting unfortunately. Hunting should only ever be done humanely and selectively so as not to affect the natural balance between species if it is to be done at all. Should the hunting category be banned from Yahoo answers?
It depends on where you live @ the location. It's not taboo here in Maine Hunting UP here is very common every season each year. Although, some environmentally concerned people want it banned ENTIRELY, claiming we're driven them towards extinction in our Maine woods. I, for 1, think they're using scare tactics to put a stop to our American seasonal tradition. So far, there's NO evidence of plummeting animal populations, that I know of, to back them up. So, you're okay to ask it. I hope this answers your question.
    Nope.

It's an integral part of our society.

Hunting licenses pay for conservation, parks and help manage animal populations while providing supplemental meat on a family's table.

Venison is regularly donated to the poor and to homeless shelters.

Hunting is often portrayed in a bad light while most hunters are very conservation minded and keenly aware of the status of wildlife and environments they live in.

I'm not a hunter -- in fact, I'm a vegetarian -- but my first question is: why?

Each to their own, and if they obtain a license and hunt responsibly -- if there is sport involved, a reliance on skill rather than technology -- I don't see a huge problem with hunting, much less a site dedicated to it.
well i dont know about bannin it but i didnt even know they had a hunting section so i went to it and was writing people who were talking about killing poor squirrels and what not. so the out come was some one reporting me! i guess i pis*ed someone off with my answers! lol
it's a free world. As long as the post are not graphic or go against community standards, let them go.

I don't want to read about icky stuff in some categories, so I don't read them. You should do the same, we all should.
No.. People might like to know information about hunting just like any other activity.

Hunting is actually a lot more humane that factory farming. A deer lives a normal life up until the moment it is taken.

    DK
No, hunting is the back bone of all mankind unless you eat weeds. They have a category for gaming, do away with that instead.
Hunting is an important function of many places and peoples. To think differently is myopic.
absolutely because we believe in a free society... everyone has the right to discuss anything they want..

as long as it doesn't offend YOU i am guessing.

Nope. Why the worry about hunting
What would be the wisdom of such a move?

Nothing but camouflage underwear and extra high heels would get you hired in a N.Y. minute.*
I'd go with full camo, even might consider a ghilli suit.

Where is a great place to go beaver hunting?

My place - when can you be there? LOL ;~)Where is a great place to go beaver hunting?
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

Buying vs. Hunting for meat which is better?

what are some benefits on hunting and buying respectively? Economically speaking??

Cost per pound, effects on the environment, etc

    please help THANK YOU

Buying vs. Hunting for meat which is better?
Hunting ----You gain memories that have been passed down for generations. Not everyone can do it. You get natural meat. Not someones farm animal. You save someone form going to the hospital from hitting a deer on the highway.

buying ----you make some rancher Rich. you cost someone medical bills (from the wreck caused from the un managed deer.Buying vs. Hunting for meat which is better?
It's kind of like apples vs oranges. You cant buy venison in stores without it being USDA inspected and it wouldn'tt be cheap in any event. So hunting would be about the only way to get all the cuts of venison.

However, getting it down to dollars per pound, I would have to figure that a typical hunting season cost me about 500 dollars for food, gas, beer etc. and other items for the cabin. Then the prorated cost of the gun and ammo. I black powder hunt but it is still fairly expensive per shot ( about 60 cents) cost of the rifle over the last four years adds another 45 dollars. I almost always get one deer, rarely two. I do the butchering for most of the camp and many give me extra meat. I will say as an average, I take about 100 pounds of meat a season.

The cost of this 100 pounds for a season( Nov 3 days and Dec. , 4 days)is about $5.50 a pound. If you bought the best beef at 100 pounds packaged in assortedd cuts, it would probably cost closer to 8-9 bucks a pound. So yes, at least for me, hunting is cheaper than buying. The meat is also a better quality with no hormones, weird feed in the meat or preservatives. AND less fat.
Ok, I just know I am going to get flamed on this post and get a lot of thumbs down for playing devil's advocate here, but here goes...

The cost of a hunting license in my state is about $35. If I want to hunt in ajoining states, the cost for a non-resident license is about $120.

A decemt deer rifle with scope will cost you about $1,200 these days. (Remington 700 BDL 30-06 at $800, Leupold VX-III scope at $400, scope base and rings, plus a sling, plus the ammo.) Of course, you can amortorize this cost over 12 years, so maybe it is just $100 a year. Add to this...hunting boots, pants, blaze orange parka, knife, long underwear, etc., in the clothing line.

So you shoot a deer. Great. Gut it, drag it, then decide what to do with it. Deer often carry deer ticks. Deer ticks carry Lyme Disease. So, just by handling the deer, there is a risk. Some deer are infected with rabies. If you have small cuts on your hands or lesions on your skin, be careful. In some states, deer also have CWD (chronic wasting disease). It is very similar to Mad Cow Disease, but scientists SAY that it can not make the jump to humans. But, state game officials do caution hunters to take extra precautions in how they butcher deer.

Ok, so then comes the question. Do you butcher it yourself? That can take several hours, is hard work, and you run all of the risks that I just mentioned above. Or, do you pay a deer processor $100 to do the dirty work?

Believe me, I have eaten my share of deer meat, cooked in a variety of ways. The very best was deer that was slow cooked over an open fire on a spit. Deer burgers are also delicioius, but you usually have to add some well cooked bacon to the ground deer meat to boost the flavor. One thing though, deer meat reheated is like eating shoe leather. Deer meat rarely tastes good when reheated.

I prefer hunting, it hasn't been pumped full of growth hormones and it's something you did all by yourself. Nature fed the animal and you can serve nature on the table with your family this evening. You never know what's been in meat you buy from the store. Of course it's going to take your time but when you've got a day off why not spend it hunting, you'll have fun and you might walk away with something great to eat.
I started off with a 500 gallon freezer and have graduated to a walk in freezer and some type of wild meat every day for dinner. It isn't cheap to get into but neither is farming. Once you have what you need then its very economical if your good at what you do and dont waste your time. You cant go into the hunting store and buy all the gimmicks and junk that you dont need. No pee in a bottle, no stopping in the store to buy snacks and drinks on the way to the hunt. I pride myself on being able to bring clean meat to the table for less money than I can go buy it.

In order to live this way you must utilize all types of game including fish. Most game species limits wont last you all year if you eat them night after night. I can stock pile the most meat out of small game with daily bag limits rather than large game with seasonal bag limits. When its squirrel season I am out there daily taking my limit.. adds up fast. During mid-late summer I am out pulling 50 dinner plate size bluegill off the beds daily.. thats 100 fillets a day going directly into my freezer for maybe $8 a trip if I dont buy things I dont need. $8 will buy you a tiny tray of crappy tasting catfish in the supermarket.. store bought fish tastes nothing like wild game fish. I bought my boat in 89 for $3,000 and I make all repairs myself. That boat has more than paid for itself by being filled with fish and waterfowl time and time again.

I do like beef but I dont buy beef from the store. I buy a cow directly from the local ranchers and have them pen it up and feed it grain for 30 days to get rid of the harsh taste of a grass diet and then I butcher it myself. I dont do this because I fear store bought meat is contaminated.. I do it because its MUCH cheaper this way. Contrary to popular belief your unlikely to find hormones or anti-biotics in store bought beef. Using such things is counter productive.. in order to be a productive cattle farmer you let the cows turn worthless grass into beef. Meds are used if the animal falls ill but this delays sale to feedlots and nothing a feedlot hates more than having medicated cattle that they cannot sell in a 30 day period because they must continue to feed them valuable grain!
cost per pound, how much gas you going to spend getting to your hunting spot? that's mainly the biggest part of spending money when it comes to hunting. environment? deer are part of the environment they are needed to keep the woods healthy, and you dont need to truck food to them, clear fields for them etc

the meat is way better for you then farm raised live stock.

no added crap, they eat healthy so when you eat them, you eat healthy...

deer live wild, far more wild then you and i and far far more wild then cow/chickens etc, deer do what they want when they want. deer are not packed in with 100's of others in a tiny area, then one day they get shot, and in a few sec's or min's they are dead...very little suffering, you cant say the same for cows..

i used deer as a example because thats mostly what people hunt around here.
Cost depends on how you hunt and what you hunt. Hunting deer will yield much cheaper meat than upland game birds. You need to add in gas money and accomodations, this could be very expensive or close to nothing.

Game animals that eat natural food put out a lot less greenhouse gases than farmed animals eating corn and stuff.
Hunting is nearly free. You have your initial costs--gun and tag, but after that things are cheap. It is good for the environment to hunt, government agencies track how many animals are around and open the hunt up to more hunters when there are too many of a particular animal. Go Hunters!
I am not completely sure about money wise but i guess if you are prepared it only really costs for the tag and ammo and of course your time. But if you hunt for you meat you will have a greater respect for it and not waste it like some people do with meat that they buy from a store.

Its not what you pay for something that matters, its what you get for what you pay.*~~ Greater benefits to Hunting.*
    Hunting:

If you have a gun, knife, bullets for the gun, you can do it.

    Shopping:

    Weakling with money
When you consider the total costs, hunting is far more expensive

    per pound of meat.

    It's called a sport for a reason.
Hunting for your meat is a lot more honest than paying someone else (the butcher) to do your killing for for you.
ok well how about 95 dollars for 400lb of elk meat ?

75 dollars for 120lb of mule deer meat?

these animals must be thinned they have no predators but us
