Why should hunting be/not be a sport?

Hunting is not a sport, it's killing for entertainment. Why should hunting be/not be a sport?
Define Sport:

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.

Now that we know that we have to look at the facts and not the feelings !

1. Hunting is governed by a set of rules and laws.

2. Hunting requires that the hunter use abilities that he or she must learn to overcome the abilities of the hunted and their keen talents.

3. Hunting is not killing everything you see. If your ';hunting';, your looking for a trophy or specific target. The ';If its brown its down'; attitude does not apply here and by the above defined, hunting is with out a doubt a sport. The hunter can win, or the hunted can win. It all depends on whos the best that day ! Even with guns, knives, bows, sticks and a high cap brain, the human is still highly out matched by a majority of the animals on this panet. Why should hunting be/not be a sport?
';Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.'; No Hunter ever needs to justify or apologize to Anyone, Anywhere, at Anytime for participating in the beloved Sport of Hunting.* Some people Hunt and some people choose not to Hunt.* Thats all that needs to be said about Hunting.*
Why should being gay be allowed?

Hunting draws on many different things learned in life. You need to be physically fit you need to know how to read a map use a GPS operate a ATV you need to know survival skills.

Did you know that SGT York was a farm boy that grew up shooting.

Carlos Hathcock one of the best snipers to every wear a USMC uniform grew up hunting and fishing.

I tell you what, I will drop you off in the middle of the Rockie Mtns. with a rifle, ammo, knife and basic supplies. You need to make it back to civilization before you die can you do it. That is a map and compass not a cell phone or GPS (Not that you would know how to use one anyways). You need to read your map find food and water protect yourself from being eaten and bild shelter and then leave no traces of where you stayed can you do it?

So untill you have been hunting or been to a range do not come around and letcture me about hunting.

Dang Bunny Huggin Tree lovers.
hunting should definitely be a sport. the team should consist of all these stupid redneck hillbilly hunters, the rules: everybody vs. everybody . id pay to watch that.
Uh...have you ever been hunting? IT'S TOTALLY A SPORT!! Just because you can't watch people hunt on television or something doesn't mean it's not a sport, why wouldn't it be?

A sport is an athletic activity that requires skill or prowess. Hunting requires some measure of physical fitness and a LOT of tact and skill. It's something people do for fun. I vote, a SPORT.
What is a sport?
I definitely consider hunting a sport...and an acceptable one, at that. However, it is like any other interest, some people dig it, some people don't. I have a 14 - yr - old who hates it, but loves basketball %26amp; baseball. I personally don't like those sports. My husband %26amp; I both hunt %26amp; fish. We love it. We take the time to buy the right gear, scout for the right areas, make a strategy, %26amp; go for the hunt. We have a large family, too. Therefore, we don't go hunting just for the ';trophy'; like some. Where we live, people kill whitetail deer, cut their heads off, %26amp; throw the bodies away. They just want the racks. That IS wrong %26amp; illegal. We not only like the meat, but our family depends on it to get through the winter's hard times.

Lastly, if you are a spiritual person, the Bible says that God gives us the animals for that reason. The only thing is that you are not supposed to drink the blood of any being.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
It is a sport. There is a lot of skill and patience involved in hunting, as well as physical activity. the communication between a hunter and his retriever is something to see! Basically, hunting is a sport as long as it is done ethically, and the meat is used.
It should be a sport. Your shooting at a moving target. Not to mention waiting for that moving target to show up.
Yes its a sport. And so is going to the hunter forum and bugging the hell out of sportsmen and women.

Anti hunters are way out there! They use animal products every day and have no clue.

And those animals could not run away. They waited their turn to be killed; no chance, no honor, no respect, just dead.

There will be thousands of deer that will starve to death this winter. If you love animals so much why don鈥檛 you feed all of them?

Did you know domestic cats kill over 1 billion song birds a year?

Did you know your bird feeder kills birds? By spreading disease and pestilence. Also it makes it easier for cats to get them.

Did you know over 350 pharmaceuticals are made from animal products?

That many kinds of cosmetics are made from animal products?

Did you know that house you live in, the highway you drive on and the stores you go to all took away animal habitat?

So shut it fools!
I think hunting should be (if it isn't already) considered a sport. It is physically demanding, takes talent, you have to build up skill, you have to sink a fair bit of money into it usually. It also is the main theme to many shows on sports-carrying networks.
This is a question of opinions. I love hunting, you might think it's wrong. You might be a vegetarian, I love a nice big steak. You might like basketball, and I like football. Although I don't think ';sport'; is the correct term for hunting. I think it should be hobby or pasttime. Everyone has different views on the way they think the world should be. One persons view may not be anothers. So there is no real answer to your question.
Sure it should be a sport. The license fees and revenues generated by hunters do more for game and non-game species in terms of habitat restoration, etc. than any anti-hunting organization ever has. Wildlife numbers have reached the point where hunting is a necessary tool in some areas to prevent overpopulation. Some of the DC suburbs in VA, for example are on the verge of a deer population explosion now and the deer are a real nuisance in terms of auto accidents, ruined landscaping, etc. Ever since California in its infinite wisdom decided to ban the hunting of mountain lions, attacks on humans (especially children and women) have been on the rise.
I have nothing against hunting, per say...

However, I don't see the sport of sitting in a tree stand for 8 hours, sleeping on and off, waiting for a deer to walk underneath you so that you can shoot it in the neck.

To me, the sport of it is in the skill it takes to track, wait, and shoot accurately, with the animal always having the opportunity to elude you.
Hunting is definitely a sport. Only when its practiced correctly. People who poach or bait deer (like Hank Parker) should not call themselves sportsmen. Only lazy people who could care less about conservation and the hunting tradition do those two things.
Who says it shouldn't be....
i just love these animal rights people, trying to get people to stop hunting,

not only is hunting a sport, for lots of us, it is a way of life.

if the animal rights, tree huggers, spent as much time, managing their own life, as they do, trying to stop hunting %26amp; fishing, they would find out that they would have more than enough to do, without trying to tell their fellow man, to stop their way of life.

aminal rights people, have enough of their own problems, without pestering sportsmen %26amp; sportswomen
I believe in the Constitution of the United States, and the General Statutes that regulate our secured freedoms....Hunting is one of those secured freedoms, and legal in all of the 50 states. It is a freedom of choice, and one can participate, or not......Freedom of speech, freedom from search and seizure, freedom to travel, freedom to vote, all are secured by the same Constitution......If we abolish even one of our freedoms, what is to stop other freedoms from coming under scrutiny?................Hunting is not a sport, but a secured freedom under our Constitution......
hunting shouldnt be a sport, its barbaric in my opinion, all bloodsports should be banned.... they made a very good descision on banning fox hunting in uk, now they and their dogs have to go around chasing fake foxes, haha and their point being?? nutters

mr sturdly, how would u like it if the hunters used u as a moving target? im sure u wud be ok with that then yes?
It's only a sport if the animals can shoot back.

Would hockey be a sport if one side had no goalie?
hunting should not be a sport thats just mean do you think hunting should be a sport
should not be hurting other species for your own enjoyment.
