To me shooting them on an evening as they come to the trees/woods ect to roost would be the best time.Dove hunting in a small field surrounded by trees?

I dunno where you are but where I am at we find more open places. Along edges of fresh plowed fields, or any type of grain field is going to be your best bet. If water scattered out then places between the water sources and grain fields are the best. If water is abundant then you just have to walk and sit for a while watching the dove patterns and see where the biggest traffic lanes are. Best times are in the morning and afternoons but they can also move alot at noon if its cloudy and cool.

First is there food for doves in that field. Sitting in a small field without something to attract doves is just waste.


Second is there water near by or in the field. Without that you will not see doves


Third if here is water, food and doves find a break in the lines of trees and sit there. The doves will funnel through that break in the tree line and you will get some of the fastest and wildest shooting in your life.
