Should whale hunting be banned?

For this piece of coursework I have to find out if whale hunting should be banned. I have reasons for and against it but i cant find any good data to put in a graph. if anyone can help i would be most thankful.Should whale hunting be banned?
My opinion is that, yes, it should be.

Other food sources are available.Should whale hunting be banned?
It should indeed be banned. The Japanese is the most infamous nation for whale hunting. According to international law, only slaughter in the name of science is to take place and NONE of the whale can go to waste. The Japanese claim that they are doing it in the name of science, taking organ weight and other quantifiable data and they sell the meat (which is very expensive for consumers) after they get back to the mainland.

The problem with this is that you would think that after a decade of whaling, they would have a pretty good handle on the weight of whale organs, length, age, weight total, parasite activity, stomach contents and a wealth of other data. The worst part is that whales are intelligent- but as they are not ';cute'; like the bottle nosed dolphin, they aren't always given as much thought by those in the mainstream public.

This a good place to start for information: http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/鈥?/a>

This site shows the number of killed whales, the species of whale, the year, and the nations who have done the whaling.
You can make all kinds of laws, but no one wants to / has the ability to enforce them. There are laws protecting whales, but the Japanese kill them anyway. so do the Chinese. and the Russians. and the Americans.
